For a Malaysian traveller, our starting question is simple: are you building Malaysia Airlines Enrich points, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles, or both? The answer changes which card should pay for dinner, an airline ticket or a hotel overseas. A bank's “10X” headline is not ten airline miles. Divide the points earned by the partner conversion ratio, then apply the cap and costs.

Start with the job the card needs to do

  • Enrich from restaurant spending: HLB Infinite deserves a place near the top of the shortlist. Its current qualifying dining rate is 1 Enrich point per RM1, including local dining, with no monthly reward cap in its published table.
  • Flexible Enrich/KrisFlyer from ordinary local spending: Amex Platinum Charge is stronger on eligible general purchases than the Reserve Amex, but its RM3,250 annual fee needs a separate justification.
  • Overseas spending accepted by Amex: Maybank 2 Cards Premier's Reserve earns an equivalent 0.8 Enrich or KrisFlyer per RM1 at 10X. The companion Visa earns less.
  • Singapore Airlines website purchases: the Maybank Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Amex Platinum earns 1 KrisFlyer mile per RM1 on qualifying SIA, Scoot and KrisShop website spending. This is a focused KrisFlyer card, with no Enrich choice.
  • Mastercard acceptance and frequent travel: CIMB Travel World Elite offers 0.8 Enrich / 0.667 KrisFlyer per RM1 on qualifying overseas and direct-airline purchases. CIMB Travel Platinum offers half those rates at a lower entry cost.
  • Moderate spending plus selected lounges: HSBC TravelOne can still be useful. Its airline conversion and monthly bonus ceilings make it a weaker default for a large overseas bill.

Compare airline miles, not bank points

1. American Express Platinum Charge: strong local earning, a substantial fee

American Express Platinum Charge card, official Malaysian issuer image
American Express Platinum Charge Maybank / American Express · Official card artwork

This is The Platinum Charge Card, not the Amex Platinum Credit Card and not the Reserve in Maybank 2 Cards Premier. The Maybank product page lists RM190,000 minimum annual income, RM3,250 annual fee and up to four supplementary cards without an annual fee. A charge card requires full settlement of the monthly balance.

Eligible general spending earns 5 MR per RM1. Amex Malaysia's detailed footnote reduces utilities, education and insurance to 1 MR per RM1; government, FPX, JomPAY and e-wallet transactions do not earn. Do not apply the 5X headline to those bills. Amex states no earnings cap and no expiry for MR; that does not mean unlimited payment authorisation.

The August 2026 redemption schedule retains 7,000 MR → 1,000 Enrich or KrisFlyer for Platinum Charge. RM10,000 eligible general local spending therefore earns 50,000 MR: about 7,143 airline miles in equivalent value, with the usable transfer amount governed by the redemption block.

The useful privileges are lounge access through the Global Lounge Collection and hotel status enrolments, including Hilton Honors Gold; Maybank also confirms Marriott Bonvoy Gold enrolment for the Malaysian-issued card. Enrol first, then check the specific hotel's benefits. Gold status is not a universal promise of breakfast or executive-lounge access. For a couple, verify the actual lounge's guest and supplementary-card rules rather than assuming every partner admits a second person free.

Our view: attractive for substantial eligible local Amex spending and benefits you already use. The charge-card PDS applies a 2.5% foreign conversion factor. Strong local earning does not automatically make this the best overseas payment card.

2. HLB Infinite: an Enrich dining specialist

HLB Infinite card, official Malaysian issuer image
HLB Infinite Hong Leong Bank · Official card artwork

The regular HLB Infinite requires RM100,000 annual income and has no annual fee. This review uses the regular Infinite's terms, not the separate Infinite P or Doctor's Edition.

Under the terms updated 23 April 2026, qualifying dining earns 1 Enrich per RM1, specified travel and retail shopping 1 per RM4, and other eligible spending 1 per RM6, locally and overseas. Dining covers MCC 5811, 5812 and 5814. A meal billed to your hotel room can post as hotel spending rather than restaurant spending; the merchant's category matters.

The table states unlimited monthly earning. Transactions are rounded down under the programme rules, and supplementary spending flows to the principal member's Enrich account. Conversion is automatic: you give up the flexibility to choose KrisFlyer later. Crediting is not instantaneous; HLB aims to credit by the end of the calendar month following the relevant statement date.

Four selected Plaza Premium visits are offered per year in Malaysia and Singapore, with a guest discount rather than a blanket free companion benefit. The fee schedule specifies 1% network transaction fee plus 1% bank FX mark-up for foreign-currency transactions.

Our view: particularly compelling for ordinary Malaysian restaurant spending when Enrich is the goal. At an illustrative 2 sen value per Enrich point, 1 point/RM1 represents 2% gross reward; overseas FX costs can consume that entire amount. Keep the local and overseas decisions separate.

3. Maybank 2 Cards Premier: Reserve for earning, Visa for acceptance

Maybank 2 Cards Premier Reserve American Express card, official Malaysian issuer image
Maybank 2 Cards Premier Reserve American Express American Express / Maybank · Official card artwork

The pair's June 2026 revision gives Reserve Amex 10 TP/RM1 overseas, 5 TP on local dining and 3 TP on other local purchases. Utilities, education, insurance and EzyPay remain at 1 TP. MCC 7311 earns 3 TP locally or overseas, not the overseas 10X; government, JomPAY, FPX, e-wallet reloads and MyCDD are excluded.

At 12,500 TP → 1,000 Enrich/KrisFlyer, eligible overseas spending earns 0.8 miles/RM1. Local dining earns 0.4 and general local purchases 0.24. This is why Platinum Charge can beat Reserve locally while Reserve can beat Charge overseas, before costs.

Maybank Visa Infinite card, official Malaysian issuer image
Maybank Visa Infinite Maybank · Official card artwork

The Visa Infinite companion earns 5 TP on eligible overseas spending, equivalent to 0.4 miles/RM1. Use its wider acceptance as a practical backup, but do not put a rejected Amex payment on Visa and continue calculating at the Amex rate.

Maybank's product page sets the minimum income at RM100,000. The PDS lists RM800 annually, free in year one and waived subsequently with RM80,000 annual spending; foreign transactions carry the network conversion plus a 1% bank charge. RM25 card service tax applies per card, separately from the annual-fee waiver.

The Visa's five selected lounge entries, currently through 31 December 2027, are for the principal holder, limited to one per day under the lounge terms. This is a lounge-use cap, not a daily spending-reward cap.

Our view: useful when normal spending meets the fee waiver and Amex acceptance is reliable. It is not automatically a lounge solution for two.

4. Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Amex Platinum: a direct KrisFlyer option

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer American Express Platinum card, official Malaysian issuer image
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer American Express Platinum Maybank / American Express · Official card artwork

Maybank's co-branded card earns 1 KrisFlyer mile/RM1 on SIA, Scoot and KrisShop websites, 1/RM2 on eligible online and overseas spending, and 1/RM2.50 on other eligible local spending. These are airline miles already; no bank-point division is needed. Government, JomPAY, FPX, e-wallet reloads and MyCDD do not earn.

The annual fee is RM300, waived in year one; budget for the subsequent fee unless Maybank confirms a waiver. Programme terms credit the linked member's account after the billing cycle. The airline's expiry rules then apply. This is less flexible than keeping bank points while choosing between Enrich and KrisFlyer.

A useful but narrow benefit is the one-time KrisFlyer Elite Gold fast track: RM35,000 qualifying SIA Group online spending in the first membership year, with status valid for one year after upgrade. It is not a recurring Gold renewal through ordinary card spending. The five selected lounge visits also need the applicable outlet and guest rules.

Our view: particularly relevant when you actually buy SQ tickets, including a PEN–SIN–destination itinerary. RM6,000 qualifying SIA website spending earns 6,000 KrisFlyer miles; the same amount of generic eligible online spending earns 3,000. Payment rewards are separate from miles earned by the passenger for flying.

5. CIMB Travel Platinum: a lower-cost starting point

CIMB Travel Platinum card, official Malaysian issuer image
CIMB Travel Platinum CIMB Bank · Official card artwork

CIMB Travel Platinum has a RM24,000 annual income threshold and no annual fee. Eligible overseas, direct-airline and duty-free purchases earn 5 BP/RM1; other eligible local purchases earn 2 BP, while local education, insurance and utilities earn 1 BP.

In the 2026–2027 catalogue, 62,500 BP → 5,000 Enrich and 75,000 BP → 5,000 KrisFlyer, in 5,000-point/mile blocks. At 5X that is 0.4 Enrich or 0.333 KrisFlyer per RM1. An RM6,000 airline purchase earns 30,000 BP, so that purchase alone does not reach either minimum transfer block.

The Travel card terms require RM3,000 eligible spending per qualifying quarter for one lounge entry, maximum four annually, shared with supplementary holders. Access can take up to 14 working days after qualification. Two people entering together need two valid entitlements; one quarterly entry is not a couple's visit.

Our view: a sensible lower-cost Mastercard option for occasional travellers. Direct-airline earning and insurance conditions do not automatically extend to online travel agencies. Check the programme caps below before a large purchase.

6. CIMB Travel World Elite: stronger overseas earning, a higher cost hurdle

CIMB Travel World Elite card, official Malaysian issuer image
CIMB Travel World Elite CIMB Bank · Official card artwork

World Elite requires RM250,000 annual income. Eligible overseas, direct-airline and duty-free spending earns 10 BP/RM1: 0.8 Enrich or 0.667 KrisFlyer. Other eligible local spending earns 2 BP, with local education, insurance and utilities at 1 BP. It does not earn 10X on every Malaysian purchase.

The RM1,215.09 annual fee has a standard full-waiver threshold of RM240,000 annual spending, or RM120,000 for half. Separate 2026 campaigns can reduce those hurdles for qualifying customers, but require their own repayment and campaign checks. Do not treat a temporary waiver as an unconditional recurring benefit.

Its 12 core Plaza Premium entries per calendar year are shared with supplementary holders, without the quarterly spending hurdle of Platinum. The fee schedule waives CIMB's additional 1% FX administration fee for eligible foreign-currency transactions; network conversion remains and DCC is excluded from the waiver.

Our view: stronger for travellers whose existing spending supports the cost and who need Mastercard acceptance. Its lounge and FX benefits can matter more than a small difference in headline miles, especially when Amex is not accepted.

7. HSBC TravelOne: calculate the whole month's spending

HSBC TravelOne card, official Malaysian issuer image
HSBC TravelOne HSBC Malaysia · Official card artwork

TravelOne requires RM102,000 annual income. It offers 8 RP/RM1 foreign currency and 5 RP on eligible local travel and dining, before the additional-point caps. The conversion table uses 21 RP per Enrich and 25 RP per KrisFlyer: 8X becomes 0.381 Enrich or 0.320 KrisFlyer/RM1, not eight miles.

The terms allow 20,000 additional RP monthly for foreign currency and 10,000 each for local travel and dining. Foreign spending earns 1 base + 7 additional RP, so its bonus ends around RM2,857/month; the local categories reach their 1+4 bonus ceilings at RM2,500 each/month. Beyond the relevant ceiling, eligible base earning remains.

The PDS lists RM300 principal / RM150 supplementary annual fees and foreign network conversion plus the bank's 1% charge. The waiver schedule gives a first-year waiver, then RM20,000 eligible annual retail spending. Six selected lounge visits are shared with supplementary holders for international departures.

Our view: judge it against your capped monthly mix and the lounges you will use. We would not choose it mainly to move points into hotels, or simply because its partner list is long.

Daily limits, monthly caps and transfer ceilings are different

ProgrammeDaily reward ceiling in reviewed termsOther limit that changes the calculation

HSBC TravelOneNo separate daily rewards figure statedAdditional RP capped monthly by category
CIMB Travel Platinum / World EliteNo separate daily rewards figure statedCategory BP ceilings and 1,000,000 BP overall per statement cycle

“No separate daily figure stated” is not a guarantee of unlimited spending. Your available credit, bank-set authorisation controls and a hotel deposit can stop a payment even when there is reward capacity. Before a large flight or hotel payment, check both available spending capacity and remaining reward allowance. Splitting a monthly-capped purchase over two days in the same month does not reset that cap.

CIMB's current Member Rewards terms, clause 8.4 cap transportation MCC 4784, supermarket/hypermarket, utilities and specified professional services at 50,000 BP each per statement cycle; insurance, MOTO, telecommunications, automobiles and specified retail categories at 100,000 each. The overall ceiling is 1,000,000 BP. These apply across local and overseas transactions. For example, RM6,000 qualifying overseas supermarket spending at 10X hits the 50,000 BP category ceiling, not 60,000. A statement cycle is not necessarily a calendar month. Petrol, instalments, recurring payments and prepaid credit balances also have exclusions in the programme; do not count every daily expense as eligible.

Maybank's redemption terms separately cap airline conversion at 2 million miles per cardmember/calendar year, 250,000 per airline bonus campaign, and a 100 million collective monthly pool across cardmembers. Transfers can take seven business days. These are conversion restrictions, not daily earning caps. An award seat is not held simply because a transfer is pending.

Three spending examples that change the recommendation

RM3,000 local restaurant spending: qualifying HLB Infinite dining produces about 3,000 Enrich; Platinum Charge about 2,143 Enrich/KrisFlyer equivalent; Reserve about 1,200; HSBC approximately 13,000 RP after the dining cap, equivalent to 619 Enrich or 520 KrisFlyer. This assumes the correct dining MCC, available cap and no rounding loss. HLB wins this Enrich category, not necessarily the rest of your household spending.

RM6,000 foreign-currency spending in one month: HSBC produces approximately 6,000 base + 20,000 bonus = 26,000 RP, equivalent to 1,238 Enrich or 1,040 KrisFlyer. Reserve's eligible 10X gives 4,800 airline miles equivalent; Platinum Charge's 5X gives about 4,286; CIMB World Elite gives 4,800 Enrich or 4,000 KrisFlyer before any relevant category ceiling. Deduct each card's FX cost before declaring a winner.

Can Platinum Charge's local earning alone pay its fee? Against Reserve's 0.24, the incremental earn is about 0.474 miles/RM1. If, purely for your budget model, you value a usable mile at 2 sen and assume Reserve's fee is already waived, recovering RM3,250 from that difference needs roughly RM343,000 eligible local spending/year. This ignores other benefits and taxes. Lounge visits, hotel status or dining savings can change the result, but value only what you would actually buy or use.

Hotel transfers: an exception, not our default recommendation

For this site's Malaysian audience, we prioritise Enrich and KrisFlyer. Earn hotel rewards from eligible direct stays and use status benefits where they help. Transfer bank points to a hotel only when a specific available redemption or small top-up beats the airline miles you give up.

The published hotel ratios also prevent a blanket “Maybank always wins” conclusion:

Bank currencyMarriott Bonvoy conversionAirline alternative using that currency
HSBC TravelOne RP25 RP → 1 Bonvoy25 RP → 1 KrisFlyer; 21 RP → 1 Enrich
CIMB BP50,000 BP → 5,000 Bonvoy75,000 BP → 5,000 KrisFlyer; 62,500 BP → 5,000 Enrich
Maybank Membership Rewards, eligible Amex cards3,700 MR → 330 BonvoyPlatinum Charge: 7,000 MR → 1,000 Enrich/KrisFlyer

Sources: HSBC partner table, CIMB catalogue, points-transfer page, Maybank redemption schedule.

These are different bank currencies. At qualifying overseas rates, the mathematical Bonvoy equivalents are 0.32/RM for HSBC before cap, 1/RM for CIMB World Elite, and about 0.446/RM for Platinum Charge. CIMB can therefore earn more Bonvoy points per ringgit in this particular comparison. That still does not establish a better redemption than Enrich/KrisFlyer. The hotel's cash saving per point and the flight you would actually book decide the value.

For example, 25,000 HSBC RP can become 1,000 Bonvoy or 1,000 KrisFlyer. If your actual hotel award saves only 0.6 sen/Bonvoy but your realistic flight use saves 2 sen/KrisFlyer, the same bank points save RM6 versus RM20. Those are illustrative valuations, not fixed market prices. Likewise, HSBC's 70:1 ALL and CIMB's 125,000 BP → 5,000 ALL need a separate cash-value comparison; do not compare different hotel currencies just by the points count. Maybank's MR hotel schedule must not be applied automatically to Reserve's TreatsPoints or the KrisFlyer co-brand.

What to pay with before and during the trip

Airfare: compare the card's direct-airline or SIA website category and the actual policy that covers the booking. Full-fare payment, insured travellers and booking-channel conditions matter; an award ticket with only taxes charged may be treated differently. A large insurance headline is not proof of medical, cancellation or missed-connection cover for your particular itinerary.

Daily meals and hotels: favour HLB for qualifying local Enrich dining; consider Charge for eligible general local Amex purchases if you already justify its fee; compare Reserve and CIMB World Elite after FX costs for overseas bills. At checkout, request the local currency rather than DCC, check the remaining cap, and remember that a hotel restaurant charged to the room may carry the hotel's MCC.

Economy departures: check each partner's lounge entitlement, terminal and remaining visits. Business departures: first check what your ticket already includes, so the same lounge visit is not valued twice. Carry a backup issuer or network and leave credit available for hotel deposits. Your best setup is the one that earns useful airline miles on spending you already planned.
